Substitute Instructing

I am a new substitute instructor. My concern is how to move into the position and continue the flow that the regular instructor has set in motion, when I'm only there periodically?

Kim,
This is a very good concern to have but there are so many variable that play into how you come to be in the classroom for the teacher that it is tough to give a standard answer. If the teacher has a good set of lesson plans then you can take the lesson plan for that session, review it and then teach it. You might also want to have a number of activities that you can use when you have the class that pertain to the content so the class continues to move forward. It is almost impossible to be totally effective with the students if you have the class for one session and then are back a month later for one session. These type of step in situations are tough to work through so you have the attention of the students. This is why I am suggesting the activity method to get them involved for the session you are there and help them to feel it was worthwhile to be in class that day.
