When you are knowledgable about what needs to be presented or taught, the teaching process can be easier. You show your students that you are reliable and prepared.

Sometimes knowledege is not a precursor for success. Being able to take that information and break it down into how the student can understand it is a skill that some of the most knowledgable of instructors need to develop.

That is what direct instructional planning should be about. This way everyone knows what the expectations are and how to be successful in the course.
