Cheerleader

Being a cheerleader to the students is a great way to motivate them. Not only are we thelr cheerleader, we are their coach too.

Alecia,
Great way to keep ongoing communication going as well as showing your students that you are there to provide support.

You can also you the on-line class management site (Moodle, Blackboard) to send quick notes to students that encourage them as well.

Gregory,
This has been my experience as well. They need to have someone that is there to provide reinforcement and support when they start to wear down and their life outside of school intrudes to the point they might drop out. You are providing such a valuable service as their learning leader and career coach as they move toward their career goals.

I really think that this is a key component of what we do. I have found that many of my students do not have that cheerleader or champion outside of class to encourage them on their path. On the contrary, they seem to have more distractors or discouragers, those who do not want to see the adult learner rise up and be more than they have been. While maintaining appropriate boundaries, I find this makes up a large portion of my time at school.

Marvis,
Good blend when you are both a cheerleader and coach. This helps to bring out the best in the students and getting them to be forward focused in their thinking and efforts.
