Excitement is contagious!

Projecting confident excitement in the course topics has a way of transferring from the instructor's face to the students faces. That leadership goes a long way in letting the students feel like they are allowed to be excited and participate in class discussion.

What are some ways other instructors have found to project excitement?

The more enthusiastic i am about the content of the subject, the more responsive the students are, especially when i show the relevance of the material being taught to my personal success in the field

Lisa,
Demonstrating enthusiasm for your topic is a great way to ramp up your students. When they know you are excited about the upcoming session they will start to be as well. Excitement is catching as we know.

Sometimes when I notice a low energy morning I like to change the mood. I start off my lecture with some of the exciting things that could be in store for the students in their new career. I tell them what a great choice they made and why, to reinforce the positive attitude they had the first week of class. It seems to help bring back the enthusiasm and some anticipation for their future.

Sherri,
Excitement does spread that is for sure. By showing your passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching about it you are showing your students that you deserve to be their learning leader and that you have something to offer them in terms of their career growth.

One morning I walked into class and told the students that I was so excited to teach the material. I went on to say that the topic is one of my favorite and that I'm kinda obsessed with it.
They picked up on my excitement quickly and I did receive positive feedback.

Genea,
Yes they do. This is is a wonderful learning connection to have with students and it increases the respect they have for you as their learning leader.

When you can show the students that you were once in their shoes and how your hard work paid off, they get extremely excited and begin developing a passion and before you know it , it spreads like wild fire. Its amazing to see happen.

RONALD,
Yes, it is and it is a real joy to be a part of a class when this happens. At the end of the session you and the students know everyone nailed it and learning has occurred.

I agree not only does it validate the training, It brings a level of clarity to the student allowing them to build confidence and self worth. I have had this happen in the class room and it is contagious. It has given me many opportunities to pull more students into a dialog because it is a spark unlike any other.

JOHN,
This increases the value of their education to them and illustrates the reasons why you taught them the content you did.

when students see, after getting a job in the electrical field, how important basic knowledge is, they see this reflected in their pay, it's a good feeling for me and an even better one for the student.
