Instructional Style
Instructional style is extremely important at delivery. I try to build rapport with the students through humor. It has worked really well but I am curious how much of it is related to how close in age I am to the majority of my students.
Karin,
You have a winning combination when you use humor and real world examples. Both help students to stay engaged and focused because a shared laugh goes a long way in helping students to get settled into the course and the real world examples get them excited about where their training is going to take them.

John,
I do think that age range does have an influence on how students react to humor and the type of humorous references you can use. Much of humor as it relates to workplace examples or cultural events is time referenced so the students need to have such a reference if they are to get the humor.
