Role as Motivator
Being an instructor is a rewarding job. One of the biggest challenges I face is keeping the students motivated. I have learned in order to keep them motivated you must be persistent in keeping the classroom real. Bringing real life situations into the class keeps them motivated.
LeeAnne,
This is such a great opportunity for both you and your students. You are doing daily what you are teaching them about so you bring the latest greatest information as well as best practices to their class. This is a win win opportunity for everyone.

Currently, I am teaching an Industrial Safety and a Blueprint reading course. I absolutely love the fact that I manage my fathers Machine Shop as my full-time job. I have access to and endless amount of real world situations. To be honest, without having the resources I do, I don't think I would be able to teach the course.
On the first day of class I find out where each student works or have worked in the past. During the course I incorporate this in to the topics so they can better relate to the material.
LeeAnne,
The more the better when it comes to real life experiences in courses. Real life experiences help the students to see the value of the course content and how it can be applied. This is where their motivation comes in and they get really excited about what is being taught. Keep up the good work.
