Objectives
What are the different methods you can communicate objectives to your class? How do your students know when they have been completed properly?
I would give the students the information verbally and written if they are still having a hard time understanding it I will take them to lab and show them an example. the student will know they are trained when they can do the tasks without much help from a instructor.
Writing the objectives on the board as you go over them verbally will help students retain the information, but is there a danger of "over" doing it? Do you set a course objective and then a daily objective? Doesn't it then become repeditive?
Writing the daily class expectations on the board in a specific order. Using a visual aid to show teardown and reassembly also shows completion. Verbal communication of daily objectives can also so be expressed.
Objectives by explaining them, By writing them on the front board and when you go over a objective point it out to your students tell them you’re doing a good job following along asked them questions so what did we cover first? then ask another student what was next and so on and so on.
Thank you,
A few ways the class objectives can be delivered to the class are; To write them on the board and review them with the students, Explain the objectives in the sylabus and to repeat them throughout the course as reminders and milestones of acheivement. A summery review as well as course material testing will help the students realize the attainment of their objectives.
i think some of the best is being clear and precise on your instruction at the begining of your lecture. and if the criteria that you set forth is met.
Hand out a schedule showing what they can expect to see each day of the course. List all of the days objectives on the board and go over them at the beginning of class. They know they have completed them properly by participating in interactive group discussion, successfully completing lab assignments and passing tests.
what i try to do is have a lecture on the subject then go to lab so the student can reinforce what they learned during the lecture then test on the subject ti finaliz their learning
They know that they have completed the task properly by me signing off on thier lab sheet. And they do not earn my signature until I double check their work and pass a verbal quiz.
Hi John,
I like the way you make the day's objectives clear to your students by writing them on the board. This way there is no misunderstanding about what is going to occur during the class. You have given them a road map to follow during that day's educational journey.

I perfer to write the days objectives on the board before class starts then we go over what we plan to accomplise during class. On lab days they get use that knowledge in a hands on enviroment and use thier new skills
By handing out a clear out line of the corce, and then going over each expectation in depth. Then explain to the students why the objectives are the way they are.
By having open dincussions about any given topic hands on excercises to pratice what you have discussed. You know that students have mastered
topied when being tested .
Here are some ways that I can think of, vebally explaining what is expected and what time frame I expect it done. Written is another way this helps students that may need to read something to comprehend what the expectations are and how they are performing in the course. Self- discovery is the last, students that feel that they have a grasp on what is going on in the course is self fulfilling to some. People need reassurance that they are performing well or to your expectations.
I verbally and in writing make the objectives clear to the class, answer any comments about the objectives.
Some of the ways that objectives can be brought to the class is verbally or visually. Its not enough for some student to just write the objectives needed, if they have a passed out outline or outline i have written on the board this will give the students a better visual and mental note of what is going to be expected of my course.
I will list those objectives on the board, then discuss them. Making sure the students understand what needs to be done and why that task needs to be completed. Each task the student is instructed to complete I require the student to show me what he completed.
An effective means of communicating class objectives is to write them on the board and follow that up with an explanation of each one of the objectives assighned. I also find it quite useful to ask one of the students to repeat the directions for one of the objectives mentioned. It helps me to verify that they paid attention and understood the instructions.
Hi Drexel,
This method is a great service to students. By using these approaches you are making sure that the objectives are clear and the expectations outlined. This reduces excuses on the part of students about not knowing what was expected.
