Shouldnt some of a instructors experiences be given to the students, if kept to a small amount of time.
This way they know what to excpect in the field

I agree that you should share your own life experances in a fun way

I agree that the instructor should talk about some past experience. It does help show what is going to be in the feild and also, ive noticed, that it helps regrab their attention, because it is outside of the normal lecture.

You should always give out your experiences. They can hear the good, bad and ugly. Tell the highs and lows. If they go into their field with rose colored glasses they will get hard with a taste of reality. We all have sucusses and failures why not let your expriences help the stundents grow, plus I believe it gives a better conection between yourself and the student.

Hello Russell,

Most definitely you should share your field experiences with your class, they thrive on it. I wouldn't worry about the time you take to tell your class about your experiences as long as it relates to the subject matter at hand. The students want real world applications to the subject matter they are learning. They need to understand the benifits of the course you are teaching.

Every time I relate an experience to my class, it's like magic, I seem to have their undivided attention the whole time I am telling the story. They sit there with the utmost look of interest on their faces. They especially like it when I tell them of my mistakes and how I learned from them and how to avoid the ones that I have made.

Yes you should tell them about experiances you have had. You are introducing subject matter they may not know anything about. It also will help you with a state change to keep things more realistic. They like to here what to expect. As long as it is kept short it will work.
