attitude

having a positive upbeat attitude can never fail in any enviroment

This is very true, and I agree with the other posts in that carrying a positive attitude is not only beneficial in the classroom or clinical setting, but in life as well, to achieve success.

Positive attitude is the key to success. In any situation (more true in a bad situation) dealing stress with apositive attitude has far more chance of getting out of the situation.

This is one of my most favorite categories. I am always encouraging positivity. In My classroom above my blackboard is a poster that says no negativity or negative attitudes not allowed. I am a very positive person and have been since I began teaching. I try very hard to make any situation into positive. If my students are having a bad day I have them think of something positive and to be grateful for. I am very hard on people that have negative attitudes. If they are caught downing themselves I usually make them repeat what is on the board and try to practice that quite frequently. It is like a domino effect if someone comes in a bad mood it soon catches up with everyone else. when one smiles it is like another effect happiness increases positivity. Hi Peter,
You are right about the impact a positive attitude has on students. What are some of the things you do to keep your positive attitude for your students?
Gary

A positive attitude is a great tool

I believe the movie was called "Pay It Forward" - w/Helen Hunt & Kevin Spacey. Very cool.

My faculty and I make 'attitude' a part of the student's participation grade. Career Colleges need to keep enforcing w/the students how paramount the soft skills really are in today's hiring decisions.

Having a positive attitude as an instructor is key to maintaining a comfortable learning enviornment.

this is a vital issue excitment is contagious

For learning to be optimal, a positive attitude has to be maintained. Life bombards difficult challenges to us, and I feel we must help our students be postive by our example ie,our smile, concern, support and consistent encourgement.

Sometimes the instructor lets the student dictate his or her attitude.

I agree. The instructors attitude sets the tone inside the class room.

I agree, I always try to speak to the students individually as they can into the room. I think this makes then feel special as you call them by name

The start of the day is the most important part because this is what the day is going to turn out to be.

I would agree that the Instructor sets the tone for the classroom atmosphere. The students should also be made aware of their responsibilities as adult learners. Their cooperation is an important component of a successful learning environment.

When the instructor enters the room he/she sets the tone for the entire day so it is critical to have an upbeat attitude from the start.

Hi William,
Well said. A positive attitude will do much to establish rapport with students and keep the learning moving forward in the classroom and lab.
Keep that attitude on display.

A positive attitude is a great tool. I also have found that smiling is also a great tool. It is hard to stay in a bad attitude when smiling. Try to stay upbeat, positive, and smiling when in the class room. When we meet and greet at the door in the morning always ask how the students are doing, and smile. This could change their attitude before class even starts.

If the attitude you maintain stays positive, it will bring the entire glass to a more positive level

I agree. a possitive attitude shows excitement about the course and helps the students to buy into their own learning experience
