Go On-line

This term I set up on Google...a free website for all my classes. It has everything each syllabi has on it that is required by my school with more in-depth explanations. It includes deadlines for assignments, my evaluation methods, attendance rules, and links to the current term's syllabi.

An Announcement page, contains new evaluation instructions and pass due notices. It has help set up a more professional environment.

Going on-line has been a big boost to the students learning the value of the internet. It has helped me in reducing handouts etc.

Hi Amy,
You are fortunate to have such a resource available to you and your students. We to have such a system at my college and my students are able to visit and revisit the site throughout the course phase to make sure they understand all of the requirements.
Gary

I agree that it is nice to have a place online for students to go to get all of the information in the course at one location. The college I am at gives every course a place in their online learning management system so every course has a place where students can go online to receive all of the specific requirements of the course.

Hi Chris,
The key is to use all of the resources you have available and the internet is one of them. Also, the internet gives students access to you in a way that is more time focused for you. My students send me questions or information about the course and I can respond when time allows. When they used the phone the calls interrupted me work flow during office hours. I respond to all emails within the working day so they know they will hear from me each day.

yes, i think that using the internet is a great way to stay available for your students. this helps to broaden the learning experience for the students, teaching them computer proficiency as well...

This is the coolest idea I've gotten yet! Thank you!

Register a Gmail address and go into their services which include free blogs and websites. They are easy to setup. You do not need any special knowledge...just follow their examples and play with your website. Good luck!

This is a very good idea and something that I would like to impliment. would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction to start a web site for my classes.

Hi Fred,
Thanks for sharing such a good idea. This is truly an alternative to hard copy handouts. I believe other instructors could use this format as well. Each person has to see if this format would work for their instructional style.
At our school we use a mix of both some on line some hard copy and have had very good feedback from the students. Plus we have saved a tree and that has to be good.
