first time in class
The first time I was to teach the class I was very nerves but you don,t want the students to know this .the best I found to do was act yourself and explain thier question in full.
At first, and maybe more than that, the students are going to test your mettle. I find the best thing to do when a student, or students, is testing your limits is to answer the questions or statements in a manner the will get your point across with authority and knowledge without being threatening. If you come off as "I'm the expert and you're not", things will be uncomfortable for both student and instructor.
Hi John,
Great to hear that you had a positive experience with your new career. It is nice to know that someone is there to support you as you step before a class the first time. Welcome to the profession. I wish you a long and enjoyable career as an instructor.
Gary
As a new instructor my first time i was very nervous but my trainer jut told to take a deep breath and teach the class i was fine after that.
Hi Michael,
When you are first starting out as an instructor you are a subject matter expert (SME) due to your years in the field. As you develop your instructional skills you become a instruction delivery expert (IDE). In both cases you are the the class leader and should be prepared to take that role on and provide support to your students.
Your comments are right on target.

I believe it is alwawy necc. to project as an instructor we are in the Expert class!!
Hi Geraldine,
This is probably the most common mistake that new instructors make. They do project "novice" too much and they don't earn the respect of their students. By projecting the image that they are in control and that they have knowledge to share the students will settle into the class.
Gary
I feel it is important to not project too much "novice" to the class because they will take advantage. Keep it professional at all times.Set the climate so they know how to respond to you and what is expected of them.
