Right you are. The soft skills such as being on time and getting along with others has to be a part of the learning process for students. So many of them don't work on these skills and then wonder why they don't do well in the work place.

Our policy issues a warning to the student if late 5 min for clinical. Strict enforcement to emphasize the importance of punctuality in the work force.
Students need to be advised that bad habits in class will follow them into the work place which is unacceptable.
From the start of the class I let the student know the consequences for coming to class late. I let them know the importance of coming class on time.

You deal with tardy students by how you set up the class and the policy you establish on what happens when they are late. Consequences need to be spelled out and then followed. Students are training for a career and a part of their development has to be their ability to meet requirements, being on time a part of that training.
