It plays a major role in my cosmetology clinic because it is set up like a regular professional salon and the students go from training on mannequins to actual live persons. The students must observe state-board regulations and conduct themselves professionally.

Jamie,
Making such changes can be a challenge but you have a system in place that based upon your comments works really well. Students need to be adaptable as well as they will encounter the need to make such adjustments in work places once they are in the field.

The leaning environment plays an important role for the instructional process. As a massage therapist instructor, managing the classroom adaptability to transform from a conventional classroom setting into a massage clinic or yoga studio, presents itself as a fine example of such instructional process. Managing the deconstruction and reconstruction plays a fundamental role in the process in turn creating a relax learning environment whilst supporting students educational needs.

Kim,
By helping your students to connect their current training to their future you are increasing the value of your courses to them. This is what will yield an ROI for them as they progress through their course work.

The learning environment plays an essential role in the effectiveness of the learning outcomes for the course. My objective is to implement a learning program that is based upon active participation and academic excellence which will enable the students to make relations among ethical decision-making and lifelong learning to be applied to their careers as they move into the realm of the business world.

Troy,
All of the elements are so important from the first class session onward. They need to know how they will fit into the class and get feeling of acceptance as they look forward to the upcoming class.

Linda,
Well said. We need to look at the classroom or lab through the eyes of our students and then make adjustments as needed so we can answer "yes, we would want to learn here!"

The learning environment plays a significant role in the instructional process. Some of the factors to consider are the instructional objectives of taking the time to identify each student regarding the details of the audience, behavior, condition and degree. Having a clean, neat, comfortable facility that displays educational materials that are relative to the subject at hand are also important to engaging a student in the learning environment to mimic as much as possible the professional work place they will excel to at the completion of their educational program.

the classroom is the beginning for the student.once they are in their seats they must feel comfortable and relaxed and with an atmoshere that reflects on the curiculum to be taught. a calm mind will get better results in the end.

The learning environment plays a vital role in the comfort level of the students and instructor. Even things like classroom temperature can make or break a learning situation. The environment needs to be attractive and functional and serve to create an atmosphere that says "You want to learn here!"

Gail,
This is such an important part of the learning climate. By providing emotional and professional support to your students you are showing them they you are there to help them move toward their career goals. I try to do the same as I teach in a classroom that has many different instructors in it so I must "sell" the value of the course to my students and hope the physical setting is good enough to keep the comfortable.

Tara,
These things can really influence the learning process. We need to look at our classrooms and labs through the eyes of our students and make any adjustments that are needed to help the environment to be supportive.

I believe it is the instructors job to make the learning environment conducive to learning. In my case we are assigned a classroom which is also shared with others so there is not too much you can do about the physical environment that you can do, other than rearrange the seating. But we can make the 'psychological" environment safe for our learners. Many times we get non traditional students who are coming back into the educational spectrum, and we need to make them feel accepted and successful.

The environment is part of the learning process. It is important to be well informed and set the tone of the classroom to educate.

Everything. Noise, poor lighting, stuffy air,..........can be the very reasons for poor learning.

Crystal,
Yes it does. We need to look at the learning environment through the eyes of our students. The result will be a setting that is supportive of their learning needs and one in which they look forward to attending.

The environment sets the tone for the class. If the classroom feel chaotic and unorganized the students will not perform as well as if the room is comfortable and organized. The tone for the class while have an overall impact on the students perception of the class leading to their performance.

Raymond,
By setting your class up as an office environment you are doing a great service for your students. By experiencing your classroom your students will have an easier time transitioning into the workplace because they will know what to expect.

The learning environment should revolve around the topic you teach. I teach accoounting and business and treat my classroom like an office environment.

Erin,
What are the elements you look for in defining a supportive learning environment? How do you make adjustments in the environment to encourage students to settle in and become part of the course? Thank you for your input into our discussion on this topic.
