The class environment
I have honestly never thought about actually changing or helping the environment or setting of the class... something that I will pay attention to from now on
I agree. The classroom environment should be for active discussion & interaction. In a lab environment, discussion of theory can be had while learning skills.
I personally find that class environment is a challenge to maintain, but when when my students are comfortable and become engaged, we have our best learning moments.
The class environment provide the real experience in the field if you set the classroom with the real equipment and utilize it at 100 % of the hands on experience and real cases. The classroom environment must reflect the workplace environment.

I feel the class environment is important for student learning enhancement. The room should be well lighted and comfortable not to hot not to cold and the instructor should walk around the class making eye contact to show the student's that you are there 100%
Hi Bonita,
Good strategy for meeting the different learning preferences of students. By being flexible in you delivery you can target those preferences and enable all of the students to become engaged in the learning process.

I believe the class environment should be set according to the students in the class. All students are different and therefore learn differently. I try to get a feel for the type of class (the students themselves...are they quiet, vociferous, etc) and then I set my teaching/learning environment accordingly.
Because I try very hard to have great discussions on what we are learning and hands on information, I set up my class room in pods or groups of tables. The environment is how the students relate to you as in instructor. If its set up classroom style the expectation is for you to provide lecture. If you change the setting then you change the expectations.
Class envorioment is super importatnt for students; is not only about classroom conditions, it is also about instructor becoming a facilitator for the students. Making them feel heard.
I do agree how the class environment greatly influence the flow of the class. All it takes is one student to start acting out and the whole class will be disrupted or be out of focus. As an instructor it is my responsibility to keep the class in focus and get them to share their ideas and ask questions.
Sharing actual clinical experiences always get their attention i.e. a code blue that happened, a near-miss medication error.
i think learning environment is very important
I feel the class environment can greatly influence the the tone of the class, the manner in which the students respond and the ability to creatively learn. The environment not only speaks to the physical environment but also to the learning environment, as in the openness to new ideas and discussions that support new, and sometimes, opposing views in health care. Students must feel secure in the classroom and be able to ask questions without feeling they will be embarrassed or belittled for asking a question. It is essential to provide an atmosphere of acceptance and curiousity to encourage students to "think outside the box" and to critically think and evaluate the role of the nurse in healthcare.
