Goals

I like to give my students goals, because they know what I expect of them right from the begining

I agree, When the students have goal it's like a ladder. Step one to start and have an end at the top to complete the coures objective.

Hi Juanita,
I really like this method because it has the students set goals for themselves that a long term but not so long term that they can't see them achieved because in 4 months there is accountability. This should keep them excited about what they can accomplish in their career development.

I have my class list their vision and goals for 4 months. At first they complained but as they were able to cross things off their list that they had completed they felt this helped them to stay focus and complete what they needed to complete. With this process their goals and visions became larger and they were happy with themselves.

My belief is when students are given goals the first day of class, the course expectation are more prioritize.

I realy have learned a lot off all that i have veiwed on this topic. I do think that with out your road map , you have no starting or ending point with that being said it realy is of importants that you do set the goals on the first day of class. then you will have a much better and motivated class.thank you for all the info.

I like to give my students goals, expectations & completion dates at the begning of the course, so that they can plan their prioritization & time management skills.

I think that also as an instrutor it is imporotant that you set goals for yourself and if you keep those goals or checkoff you should share it with the class as an example of setting and maintaing, and accomplishing a goal.

I also like to give them goals because I think they are better prepared to become employed.

Hi Bob,
Good point. Goals are road maps for our life's journey. Objectives are steps we need to complete in order to keep following our goal path. Keep up the good work.

We all need goals no matter what we are doing. It could be makeing dinner or walking the dog. With out a goal you have no start or a end and the brain will go to a mush state.Look at the current gov.

I like to let them know what the goals for completion are in the beginning so they can begin to develop time management skills so they will allow them to set up schedules for completing all assigned work required for the course completion.
