Transfer of Credits
One of the big problems in the vocational-technical school industry is the transfer of credits from these institutions to "regular" colleges. Students spend a great del of time and money in these voc-tech programs yet find mostly a "brick wall" when it comes to such transfers.
It is clearly substantially political since legally there are few barriers for institutions accredited by entities approved by the US Dept. of Education.
I suppose one way to go would be to incorporate CLEP testing within the programs. . .
How does this relate to the topic? Preparation for discussion with the students about their future needs in the profession and credentialing that would normally be required of an instructor to support and mentor a student.

Hi David,
I have been a part of this battle/struggle for many years. Coming from such a background I felt I was better prepared for the 4 year college setting than many of the freshman with whom I had to sit taking English over again because my credits didn't transfer.
We have to continue our efforts in this arena. We are making some progress but still far to go. A lot of this I believe revolves around the fact that these colleges think they are the 800 pound gorilla in the room. They are finding that they aren't but many haven't realized it yet. There are many issues related to this that revolve around accreditation as well.
