Addendum

How do you write an addendum to the syllabus?

This is my first term..My addendum is going to be revised big time for next term.

Hi Jennifer,
I do this as well and it sure helps me to stay targeted with what I do. The notes help me also when I teach the course the next time. Good strategy. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I also develop or revise my addendum each time I teach a course. I make notes as each class progresses and add or change parts of my addendum to incorporate new ideas I have. My addendum continues to be refined and help students to be more successful in my classes.

Hi Janice,
You put into the addendum the information that is not covered in the syllabus or is additional information students need to have. For example, my addendum includes a course calendar along with due dates. Since this is time sensitive I develop a new addendum each time I start a course.

The addendum, in my opinion, list details not discussed in the syllabus. It covers things like lesson plans, attendance policies, and expectations not spelled out in the syllabus. The school I teach at writes the syllabus and I put my personal touches in with the addendum. I discuss it in the first day of class and have students sign a copy like a contract that both parties are bound to. It covers all my contact information and experience as well as what they can expect from me and what I expect for them. There is even a little room in there to allow student to agree on a few class rules. This helps them feel like they have an involved role in the educational journey.
