Checklists
Students often will ask a relevant question that requires some deviation from that day's lesson plan. The checklist helps me get back on track after dealing throopughly with the student's question.
Tina,
I use a checklist as well. It helps reduce stress because I know as a result of reviewing the checklist I won't forget anything I need to do in the class.

I have found myself becoming more reliant on checklists. i thought I could always remember everything i needed to get done but I have foound myself in a struggle sometimes. I have a checklist on top of my pile for class that day.
I use a checklist more to help me remember announcements to give at the beginning of class. It helps me keep track of things like which homework assignment I'm collecting that morning, or if I need to remind them to bring a particular textbook or a calculator for the next day.
To stay on track during class, I have detailed lecture notes with worked examples and problems that I follow through as I cover the material. Notes like these are really well suited for math classes. They would probably work well for other classes that involve solving math problems; like classes on dosage calculations, or engineering lecture classes.
A checklist helps me to stay focused and on track. It ensures I don't forget to cover all of my material.
I am a planner so a checklist helps me to be successful in the classroom.
I use a Checklists because some times it keeps me on track with my students. I encourage my students to keep a Checklist of their own.
Checklists are great. If the class gets off topic and I have to find my way back, the checklist helps to get me back on track.
Checklists is a way to go. It's not a day go by without my checklists.
I list my checklist in my powerpoint presentation for the students along with my lessons objectives. I find this helps students understand what they need to focus on in each chapter and makes it easy for absent students to keep up with the class.
It is so easy to get side tracked particularly when a student wants to share personal experiences with the class or when something so funny happens during the class. After the instructor has regained control of the class the checklist helps keep the instructor on track and moving forward.
Hi Judy,
Gotta have the list. That keeps sanity in the realm of possibility. Without the list and notes not sure what might happen.

I can't live without what I call them my "idiot notes". They keep me on track during class discussions.
Hi Debra,
Good use of the checklist. I teach two section of the same course back to back and I find that I need the checklist for the same reason you mentioned. Without the checklist I do forget what I covered in one and not the other.
Gary
I teach the same course twice in a week and have had to do the checklist just to make sure that I cover what I set out for both classes. I feel that if I did not cover it then I cannot test them on it. Being a new instructor has been a challenge for me and I find that some students try to tell me that I did not cover certain assignments, etc. This is a method for me to go back and show that I did indeed go over specific topics.
i think this a good idea, it makes you stay focus. there are times that a students will asked for help and you tend to forget where you left off.
I love this idea and will utilize it in my classes.
Hi Robert,
Thank you for this comment about staying on task. It is easy to get off task even when it is a relevant topic. I don't have a problem with this for a little while but with my lesson plan, like yours I can get right back on track after our discussion.
