Write down all your past experience in your field,and compare to what is in the textbook you are to use. Some information may not be needed.

Keep telling those stories. With the self imposed caution you listed in your comments you are going to keep those stories focused and specific so the students can see the value of you sharing them.

Hmmm. Doing this may help me cut down on my "war stories". One of the best parts of my class is relating the abstract concepts in the text to real world situations that I've faced over 15 years in my profession, but in some cases things do tend to get a little out of control.
