Be Prepared
Being prepared will meet the different criteria that is expected of a learned instructor.
Prepare the syllabus with the learning and required contentthat is related to the subject matter, and practice before entering a class room to instruct the students, in order to atain a successful outcome.
Celine,
Good example of what can happen to instructors, but if they are prepared at all other times than when something like the one page is overlooked the students are much more forgiving in terms of a single event. You had established that you are an organized and prepared instructor so when the page went missing you were able to make the copies and then move on with no real consequences.

There is almost nothing worse than to show up to class not prepared. It makes the students question your ability, does this instructor really know what he/she is talking about?
Just last week, I had to leave the class and make copies, it was a fluke because normally I make all copies in the morning, but for some reason, this one page got overlooked and I felt so dumb that I forgot to make copies of that one paper.
Thank you very much Dr. Meers
Joan,
Very true. Really helps with instructor confidence because you know what you know and know how to deliver it. This sets the stage for successful learning.

I agree also, When the Instructor is being prepared a week or more prior to the day of class, there will be more time to work around the subject in a more simplified way, so that the class can have a more clear understanding of what is being taught.
An Instructor must "be prepared" to teach the class at all times. Use the required text book, following the order of the syllabus, and know the objective of the required topic is important also. The Instructor should also have enough time after being prepared to plan around how they are going to opperate in the class, as what you have plan to give an open forumat the beginning of each class and adding industry current specific events. I totally agree with what you write. Aron it is also good to analize the students action in the class that the Instructor have taught before, and the short fall. This will help the Instructor to be more prepared.
I realize more and more each day the importance of being prepared. As models for our students, we must be a good example. I prepare for class by using required texts and adding industry specific current events. I also have an open forum at the beginning of the class so that students may share current events as well.
I agree - I always try to prepare the week prior for the next week classes - That way I can adjust the material based on how the objectives from the current week were absorbed.
the old adage "practice makes perfect " is doubly true for an instructor... Preparation and practice of delivery adds a level of breathe and ease that is apparent to students.
Absolutely. I also agree with this comment. I find if I'm not prepared, my students lose interest in the class. I make sure I'm mentally prepared for every class..
If I am not prepared for class, how can I expect the students to be ready? I try to arrive early to class, have all of my materials and be happy and cheerful about being there.
Preparation is key to success for me. I make sure that my kids have a set outline of each class on the board before they enter the class, I make sure the class is set up for maximum clarity and attention and I make sure that I am prepared for the class before it starts.
I agree that being prepared is a very important element to successful teaching. We have corporate outlines of syllabus content, but it's esential to take the time to know your subject matter.
