Is it acceptable to give the students a copy of the syllabus in addition to having them sign a syllabus?

It shows your students that you value the syllabus by wanting them to read it and sign that they have received and read the syllabus.

You should give a copy of the syllabus to each student. Go through it with them so they know the expectations of the course. I have a signature sheet attached on the back of the syllabus. Once we complete our review of the syllabus I have the students tear the signature sheet off, sign that they have read and understand the syllabus, date it and then hand it into me. This way I have a record of them having received and reviewed the syllabus in case a question comes up later about a student not being informed about a course requirement.
