Important to have these set early on, and encourage to move in small steps that the puzzle will eventually come together

I like that idea of making your students do that. I often feel as though some of my students only have a longterm goal, but they have not considered what they have to do to reach that goal. Many of them seem to believe "If I get my degree, I will automatically have a job in this!". It is not that simple at all since I am teaching audio production. It is a very cut throat and competitive environment, and they do need to think in smaller steps.

Good strategy to get them to project themselves into the future. I would think this helps them to see the value of what they are learning today in relation to their career goals.

in the class that i taught we had the students write down a 1 and 10 year goal and paln it by month and date. we also told them to go back over it every once in awhile and see how true they are staying to there goals.
Goals are very important and shoud be set early on. Encouraging students to move in small steps is very important to give the students confedence and know that at the end everything will come together.
