Courses without textbooks
What other resources are best to use in courses without textbooks? I am concerned about copyright infringements and other issues in trying to gather common material for the students.
I myself have a course that does not come with an issued textbook. Even though I draw some materials from the internet, I find it challenging to have to draw from my own knowledge and experiences as a working professional in Physical Therapy to give the students the information they need.
Patricia,
Thank you for sharing this information with other instructors. The past few years has brought some really great resources to supplement the textbooks. These resources help the students to see the value of both the content contained in the textbook as well as helps to gain their attention to information being presented in class.

I think textbooks themselves are valuable for me in introductory survey courses, but students often find the material a bit dry.
Fortunately, many publishers now have really rich web-based supplemental materials, whether they be film clips, short primary documents, visual images, etc., so I include these in my courses as much as possible.
Edward,
I use brief supplemental handouts that I write or get from industry/field supplies that way I don't have to worry about copyright issues. This way I know my students are getting value added information about their field.
