Same book same subject
As I proceed through the outline, I am constantly looking for ways to edit and add to my instructional material in order to make it more accurate and poignent. I don't believe that a class should be exactly the same in consecutive presentations.
Patricia,
It is OK to follow a routine if you find it working for you. My suggestion was based upon adding new activities when they fit as well as making references to current events in your field. This way your students will know you are staying current with your curriculum and they will enjoy the relevant references.

I do agree with the idea; however, in some instances, in the courses I teach (law) sometimes difficult to find new ways of presenting the material. I try to adjust each time, and do learn from prior experiences; however, I do find myself following a "routine" sometimes....any way to avoid?
Calvin,
Good way to learn from different sections of the same class. I am starting three sections of the same class in a couple of weeks and I look forward to each section since they are so different. Even though the topics are the same it is almost like teaching another course since each collection of students create different dynamic for the course.

I find that my basic course of instructons remeains the same thru multiple classes. I do add additional examples or comments from one class to the next. when a student ask a question based upon their understanding of what I taught, I look at the question and ways to avoid the lack of understanding the next class.
Kathy,
This is an important step in instructional improvement. The post class review you do enables you to make notes about adjustments or changes that need to be made before the class is taught again. This is what helps you to grow and expand your expertise as an educator.

I agree, every class should be better and you make it better by reviewing after you teach, make notes and add or change/update the material taught. Also adjust according to the students in the class.
Yes, I agree Dr. Meers. It seems like you need to revive the content somehow and freshen it up with each class. Great thought and I agree that each time I teach the same class the content gets better because new and different ways to present it are being used.
Loren,
I agree about the need to refresh and revise a course each time it is taught. I teach the same course 7 times during the year so I introduce new elements each time I teach the class so I keep my interest in the course high plus I am trying something new. This is positive for both the students and myself.
