planning and prepperation

How you prepare for your courses is how the students will respond to the curriculum

Charles,
Good point about planning and lose of confidence on the part of students due to not being prepared. It does not take long if an instructor is not prepared before students will start to complain and then shut down in the course.

I agree with all statements and would add that planning and being prepared is a responsibility to your audience. An unprepared instructor will lose the confidence of a classroom.

Mary,
Good way to start on task and keep the class moving forward. Your note cards help to to maintain a sequence to what you are sharing and the students see how the content will benefit their career development.

Djuna,
I like the comprehensive way you approach your instructional planning. This is how you will be able to relate to your students and keep them engaged.

Mark,
Right you are. If you are not prepared your students will know it and the learning factor will plummet.

I organize my courses according to the course material and subject matter. I use note cards to organize my thoughts about the topic area that I'm covering; this enable me to conduct my class more effectively.

I belive that planning and preparing are just as important as actually teaching the class. When you are well prepared, you will be in a better position to answer any questions the students might have.

One way I prepare for a new class is by first looking at the syllabus's objectives. If lecture is provided I exam the lectures and compare it to the objectives. Once that has been done I exam the reading material. If something was not lectured over it should have been read by the student. The last thing that I examine is the test. I go over and find the answers either in the reading or from lectured material
