Andric,
Humor can be a bit part of the instructional process. Everyone enjoys sharing a laugh and getting comfortable with each other in a class setting. So keep up the good work you are doing in keeping your students engaged in the learning process.

Maria Estela,
You "reading" of the students and their engagement is making a difference because you change the flow of your instruction to fit the mood of the class. This is important because this way you keep their focus for the duration of the class meeting.

Gary,
Good point. What are some ways you get to know your students better so you can target your instruction to meet their needs?

make them enjoy it by sometimes makeing them laugh and try to explain simialr situation that i have encountered over the years from my welding experince just to get them to asking questions and that might get them to show more interest in class if they see how easy it is and know that you have done similar things too that sometimes will catch there attention and want to stay in there so they can too learn how to get better at anything that they are trying to learn
My way of keeping them interested is always be prepared with the subject for that meeting. I make sure that they will be engaged with the discussion and allert them by throwing questions unexpectedly. When I see signs of inattentiveness, I will break for five to ten minutes to rest and refresh.
As you get to know you're students you will be able to teach in a way that relates to them and in doing so keeps them engaged.
Sabrina,
It is an ongoing challenge that uses our creativity to keep them engaged and wanting to come back to class.
