Planning

I always planned the week before my class. I would like any suggestion on good website to on math preparation courses and problems.

Denise,
Thank you for sharing your professional development over the past year. Congratulations on completing a year as a learning leader. Sounds like you have gained a lot of experience and are enjoying success with your students. I wish you continued teaching success for years to come.

Almost completed my 1st year as an instructor. I have learned the more prepared I am the better my class runs. I often seek help from my team for different Ideas with each new class. I feel it would be better to be able to teach one subject till you can understand the subject from all different angles. However our school doesn't agree. so every 6 weeks its a new subject matter for the instructors.Planning is a BIG key.

That is a great idea. I am always trying to hurry and put all of my planning together the day before class, sometimes the day of. I need to work on this and start preparing a week before so that I have plenty of time to make sure everything is done correctly.

Racheal,
Great to hear! Keep up the good work. As you gain more experience you will get even better at putting together your lesson plans, activities and course delivery. I wish you continued teaching success.

In my third month of being an instructor, I am focusing on becoming more organized and planning ahead for the next day at the close of every teaching day. I find the more prepared I am, the more confident I am as an instructor.

Duane,
This way it is a building process so we instructors can refresh ourselves on the content and delivery format and be ready the first day of class.

I agree that a new course requires we "go back to basics" to present the course in a new and refreshing manner.

Tracy,
As an instructor instructional planning is a must and through your experience you are able to use your prior experience to stay current with the class you are teaching. This enables the course to continue to move forward and stay on topic.

I also try to stay ahead when it comes to planning, but let's face it, it isn't always possible. I have, however, gotten to the point in my teaching where I know everything that is coming up and how to present it. But, if I teach a new subject, the planning process would need to begin all over again!

Khaison,
Good strategy to follow in terms of preparation. I would suggest you look at the many different elementary and secondary math websites. I go to these websites and get ideas for how to present my content then I develop age appropriate strategies I can use and try them out with my students. This way I remain relevant with my content and am delivering it in a creative way.
