Planning and Prep
In regards to my class I must make sure that all the boats are fueled up,have all the necessary safety equipment on board, and hbe the mehanical pre operations checks completed before the students arrive. This requires the instructors to arrive more then one hour before the students but it has the added benefit of allowing the instructors the appropriate warm up time they need to effectivly teach the course.
I agree with Jack that you should arrive early to prepare for class and meet and talk with student when they arrive. Billie Mikus
Carrette,
All good points about the value associated with planning and preparation. This is what instructors need to do if they are going to be student centered in their instruction.

I find prepping for my class to be of great value. It sends a message that this instructor expects her class to be prepared and ready to receive the lesson at hand. It also shouts loudly to the students that the instructor is on top of her game; she is familiar with her content and is able to deliver it with confidence. Additionally, the instructor knows the method of delivery she is going to utilize in order to gain maximum positive learning outcome. Finally, a high level of respect is generated for the instructor when there is thorough planning and effective delivery.
Jack,
It is so much easier to have all of this done before the students arrive and then you can take a step back and breath easier. I like being early so I can get set up like you do and then chat with my students as they come into the class. It helps me develop rapport with them and I am more relaxed as I start the class.
