Planning and Preparation

I always try to come in thirty minutes early, so I will have plenty of time to be prep and ready for class.

Marcellina,
This is my approach as well for the reasons you list. I enjoy as do the students this time to chat and learn more about each other in an informal way. This time gives me the opportunity to get a read on the mood of the class and if I need to be aware of something that is going on within the study body.

I get to class early 20 minutes early. I notice that the students that come early seem to enjoy the personal time and sharing about what they are up to in life as well.

Abbie,
Good model to follow as it allows you to keep everything organized and ready for the students as well as follow up with any students in relation to what occurs during class.

I usually stay a little while longer after class and prepare for the next day. I also come about 20mins early just in case I forgot to do something.

Silena,
This is my method of operation as well. I do not like to rush into a class. When I do I am not at my best and my students sense it. By being early I can get settled in and be ready as they start to come through the door. In addition by being early I can visit with them and get a feel for how their lives are going.

I definitely agree by coming to work early. It helps in reviewing your lesson plan(s) before the start of class and making sure that you have all the supplemental materials needed for any activities that you have planned. Also, it gives you a chance to answer any calls from your students as well as office hours for a conference with a student.
