Course Outline
Some students follow the Course Outline to the letter. As a former student, I relied heavily on the Course Outline.
In my preparation for my 4th quarter of teaching, this is what I plan to focus my efforts as far as mapping out the class.

This is what the students need and expect to have as they start a new course. Your point is a good one about how it gets them settled into the course and they know what the expectations are without surprises.

The Course outline is my guide for students regarding policies and expectations. This way there are no surprises later on. We must prepare for the real world where there will be even more expectations.
