First Day, get clear.

if the beginning of the course es the day when you have to let them know the golas and what the class is going to be about, so at the end they will not have surprises.

Benjamin,
By setting a due date and then keeping it you are helping students to learn how the workplace operates. They need to understand that employers require that deadlines be met. The more you operate using business/industry standards the easier you make the transition to employment for your students.

I agree completely with this statement. If you ask for a project on day one, then that assignment is, for all intents and purposes, set in stone. The best students will begin early in the term, and I want their dedication to be rewarded. Students get very upset if the goals are changed unnecessarily.

clear concise consistent is critcal to coompletion..no one likes to have the ending changed...some studetns work ealry on projects as they need to plan and prioritze their time.

Rebecca,
So true and so important. Students need to know what the expectations are and how the course will be conducted. Then they can settled into the course and concentrate on being successful.

Knowing what you can expect from a course is essential to overcome the stress. Surprises are not fun in in a college course. Expectations will allow students to do allow for more study time, research, and practice to assure success in the class.

Diana,
Students do not like surprises especially when it comes to assignments. So you do need to be clear and concise in your sharing of the course goals and objectives with your students from day.
