planning

i find that the more i teach a particular class, the less time i spend on lesson plans

This is very true. After so many times the course material becomes too easy and planning becomes almost second nature. So that being said we must find ways to keep it interesting not only for the students but for ourselves as well. Once we become bored so do the students.

Sarah,
That is the beauty of teaching courses over and over. You get to refine your delivery and can add new ways of motivating and challenging students.

When I teach a course more than once I become more familiar with its content which makes me more comfortable and better prepared. Knowing what lessons are scheduled increases your insight to do new things for example, a guest speaker, a field trip or group activities.

Pamela,
This is why you need to reflect a calm external side to your teaching even if inside you are moving at a 100 miles an hour. As the learning leader you need to reflect a professional attitude and self confidence so your students will look to you for guidance. This is an ongoing challenge for most of us so I can really appreciate your efforts in this area.

I have noticed that when I am rushed or unorganized, it definitely rubs off on the students. Their stress level on exams, etc is high enough without me adding to it.

Elizabeth,
You are getting the course down into a pattern and are feeling comfortable with it. This is when you can start looking for new activities to introduce into the course as well as content to keep the course current. This will keep the content fun for you to teach and help the course growth in terms of effectiveness.

that is true !! Also it is really important to have a plan or calendar made it on advance that definitely help to bring into your class a calm atmosphere.
