Planning and Preparation
This is the most important thing to making the class go smoothly.
Angela,
So true. Nothing is more frustrating for students than have to wait for their learning leader to get organized and catch up with planning while the class is going. That is not the way to start off a new course for sure.

Being ready and focused on the content is important when planning and preparing for class. Students do not want to wait around for you to get organized and they also do not appreciate it when you stray from the subject at hand.
Getting to know your students and how they learn would be an important strategy in preparing delivery to ensure it appeals to them. Definitely using my own experiences on the subject allows for the student to understand the concept in a real life situation that they may be able to apply to themselves. If its a small group your strategies may be different than if you have a large group.
I do the same as Anthony. In addition, I find that my life experiences are a great resource in my teaching. I regularly incorporate experiences that are directly applicable to the concepts I am teaching as a great way for students to see the applicability and transferability of theory to practice.
Some of the strategies that I use to make sure that I have planned my instructional delivery in a way that will appeal to my students is to stay current with certain events. These events could be music, social media or products that students identify with and find a way to corporate this in to the content that I am trying to deliver.

Anthony Allen
