preperation
advance study of the topic and complete knowledge of the subject in advance will help you convey all the relaxed manor to the students
Preparation leads to confidence. This is key: always prepare more than you need.
Steven,
Good plan to follow in terms of preparation. This way you have plenty of options so you will be able to keep the course moving forward as desired.

As part of preparations for an activity, I like to think "what simple thing could be wrong", then add that variability to my step by step procedures to see how that play out; do I know the "off tracks" well enough to get back on?
Kelly,
That is a fact and we need to keep that in mind as we do our instructional planning.

You can never be too prepared for anything in teaching.
Knowing the subject will help you grow as an instructor further.

Martha,
Confidence goes a long way in selling the course to the students. By being prepared you are showing them that you are their learning leader and that you are ready to help them acquire the needed knowledge and skills.

I feel more confident and professional in the classroom when I'm prepared. Prepping also helps to ensure you cover all the important points & content that you planned during class time.
Marina,
You make a good point about the difference between doing a task or procedure and teaching a task or procedure. It does take planning and support to come up with the most effective ways to share information and skill steps with students. This is something we all need to think about and plan for.

I find myself prepping myself and "studying" what I have to instruct in lab. Even though I know what I'm doing, actually teaching it and putting it into words is challenging at times. I have to really prepare and be one step ahead if I want to feel like I will be confident in my presentation.
Yes, preparation should always be conducted by the instructor in terms of course content, literature and a course outline for the day's class.
Preparation also requires pre-set supplies in lab and carefully thought out audio visual aids.
Joseph,
This is very important for the benefit of both the instructor and students. The instructor has more confidence with good preparation and the students are more engaged as a result of the quality of instruction.
