Teaching a 101 Class at a Career College

When teaching a general education 101 course at a career college how have some of you or instructors you know helped students remember the purpose for taking your course? I find it is sometimes difficult for the students to remember why general courses are requirements and not silly administrative hoops to jump through.

Rebecca,
As I teach such a course I can appreciate your question about how to illustrate the value of a gen ed course. It is a tough sell at times but I work hard to show applications of the content that can be made in their personal lives as well as their career development. For the majority of students the examples I share and projects I assign are enough to get them engaged and valuing the course more than when they started.
