Fresh start
As a new instructor I find having a course outline a very important part of my day. This outline assist me in keeping my class on track. My nervous jitters take over sometimes and the outline keeps me focused. The time I have taken before class to prepare is very valuable. The outline not only keeps me on task, but also keeps my students focused so the day runs smoothly.
Anne,
It is easy to do and that is why I use an outline as well. Also, students seem to be gifted when it comes to derailing a class if given the opportunity. Their minds go a different direction and they want to talk a current event, concert, etc., etc. and before you know it class time has slipped away. The outline helps to keep all of us on target even if we do take some time to talk about different topics or events during the class.

I find that I derail myself soemtimes! The outline is definitely helpful for coming back to the object of the course.
Jill,
They are good at this for sure. You are right by about the outline because some discussion is OK but the class cannot be derailed on a regular basis.

I find that students love to derail you from the tasks at hand and it is very easy to let them. Having an outline is a great tool to stay on track.
Tamra,
Works for me as well so I can really appreciate your comments in relation to using an outline to keep on task.

I find following the outline keeps me on task and on time.
I agree. Students can "derail" the direction of the course, and a good plans helps to bring the topic back.
hi Heather
The first teaching a new course can be challenging.
I have found that being as detail as possible and having an abundance of resource material very helpful.
By having a good lesson plan it gets me through the times that I inevitably lose my train of though.
