Planning
As an instructor I believe that it's important to be early to class so that I can have my materials and other necessary things organized and ready for the students to arrive so that we can get started on time. I believe that if you don't arrive early it gives students the impression that you may be disorganized which will have a negative effect on their perception of you.
Alicia,
This is my feeling as well. I want to get their early, check out the technology, arrange the seating, spread out my materials and/or demonstration items. Then I can spend a few minutes chatting with students as they come into class. When I call the class to order I feel ready to go since I have been able to read the mood of the class and make everything ready.

Arriving early makes me feel like I have it together. If I'm late I feel like the class is waiting on me and I look disheveled and crazy lol
Bradley,
I do as well because it gives me the opportunity to make sure all of the technology is working and chat with the students before class starts. This helps to set the tone for the upcoming class. Is this how you see your early arrival working for you?

I get to class 10 mins before it starts so I'am prepared with all materials.
Carolyn,
This is my pattern as well for the reason you state. I like being there and getting settled in so when the students start to arrive I can chat with them and get a read on their mood for that day.

I arrive early for my classes everyday as not to be stressed and to assure that I am prepared each day.
Brian,
I find that by arriving early I can get a read on the mood of the class and I feel more confident when I start the class. Also, I like to chat with the students before class so I can start developing rapport with them. Thank you for sharing good advice with us I know it will be of value to other instructors.
