I think a good way to keep students with you during lecture day is sharing with them videos and documentaries, of course updated. Inclusive, adding these links to the presentations will be more exiting for them.
You will have a great class participation as an outcome of this.

I've got to try this out. Thanks for the tip. So many students would rather be on their phone during class, and this would give a sanctioned "excuse" to scratch that itch!

I agree. There is a great app for android and Iphone called Kahoot that is an interactive tool to allow students to answer questions on there phone and have results displayed on the instructors computer screen. Awesome way to increase student participation.
I ALSO AGREE WITH THIS ..KEEPING STUDENTS ATTENTIOM IS ALWAYS DIFFICULT SO THE MORE WE KEEP THEM FOCUSED THE BETTER..ADDING VIDEO AND DOCUMENTS WILL HELP...AND CLASS PARTICIPATIOM WILL ALSO HELP
