Hi Louise,
Good strategies. Using your methods you will have control of your classes and will make your teaching much easier.

I have rules that help curb cheating. No talking, all cell phones are to be turned off and off your body and I also give out two different versions of the same test. Students must raise their hands if they need help with a question. You might get some resistance but in the end you will get control of the class.

tyrant, whats wrong with tyrant when other methods fail. control is the key. not student control but rather instructor control. you are doing them a favor as well as preparing the students to meet the real world upon completion of their studies.

I have had much success by giving different variations of the same test. ie; having the questions in different order on 4 or five tests them pass them out randomly. That elimintes the historic question of the person seated next to you," What did you get for question 12?" I hope this helps.

Hi Ronald,
The reason students enroll in a career college is to acquire knowledge and skill in their chosen career field. As the instructor it is your responsibility to share the content and assess their learning growth. What you are doing is measuring it through testing. You have every right to set the rules for the testing situation. You are on the right path. By you being as supportive as you can be and explaining the questions you are being fair to your students. Also, if the questions do not make sense to them due to language issues, how can they expect to be successful when they are out working. They should thank you for helping them to become employable rather than complaining about your testing strategy.
