first class meeting

The first class meeting is critical since it sets the tone for the class. Although review of the rules and expectations might seem redundant it is necessary to voice what is expected of the students and more importantly what will and will not be tolerated.

The first day is important it will set the tone for all the days to come and students need to here rules over and over again

Hi Kristnamma,
I want to reinforce to everyone your point about documenting correspondence with students. A simple log of when you called/emailed or talked with a student will save you much grief later should a dispute arise. Most frequently there is no problem but if you can say I kept a record of when I called/emailed you and this is the content of that communication the students will quickly understand that you have their best interest in mind but that you are going to make sure everyone is clear about what has been discussed.

I totally agree with you. Furthermore be consistant with it. I keep written record of what was discussed and the due dates for all assignments. This way the students cannot say "oh you you never told us"....

I agree, it is important to go over the items that are covered in all classes, every quarter. They students will have heard it in every class, but it only reinforces what is expected.

This is especially true of cheating. There's
always someone who wants to take the easy way
out.
