Order of Items

It was very helpful to have a comprehensive detailing of first day responsibilities, but I think that there is, in reality, much more room for flexibility in the order of these activities than indicated in this module. A number of factors will impinge upon the decision whether to review the syllabus, take attendance, etc.

Agree. The order of the topics covered isn't as important. It depends on the instructor's style, the type of class (lab vs. lecture), and the student mix.

I like to think of teaching somewaht like counter-punching in boxing. You react (in an appropriate manner) to the input and feedback of your students.

Hi Curt,
You hit upon a good point about flexibility. The module's content is intended to inform instructors how to plan and to even over plan for class activities. This way when things come up that take you and the class a different direction you will have sufficient content and delivery options to cover what ever might occur.
The most important thing is to focus on the needs of the students and then offer explanations and content around those needs.
Good teaching.
