That is cool, Greg, I think you have touched on the bottom-line secret to interactive teaching! It's all about relevance, and if we can make it both real and personal to the objectives of our students, there investment in the process is solid. They can't get to the "now what" until they have answered the "so what." Thanks!

First impressions are so important. I like to talk and get the overall feelings on what my students want to know about our objectives. That way in lecture and lab I can reflect their wants and desires into theproject they are undertaking.Making it a win win for themselves and for myself when I see the little light come on above their heads. How cool....

I agree. As the instructors, we need to present ourself to the class in a confident manner. I find this sets the students at ease that they will be in good hands for the rest of the class. It also helps to head off trouble down the road. If any of the students are fairly strong willed, they will try and take the class over unless they get the impression they will not be able to.

First impression is the best impressiom. Presentation, body language and appearance are some contributing factors.
