Meeting Your class for the first time and the second and .....
The old saying is: "When you dress like a professional, you feel like a professional and will act like a professional". First impressions are important and creating an environment for learning is critical to set the pace for the entire course. Just like instructors don't want to hear excuses, "neither do stuents". Be prepared and be professional.
Hi Norminda,
You make an excellent point about being professional. I only wish like you that when someone is dressed in my profession and does something that is not professional everyone could know that that person does not represent my career area. Since that isn't possible we can only act profession so we give observers at least one person from our career area to which they can look and see a proper model.

I am big in dressing professionally. I love my profession and one way I show it is how I carry my uniform. I am a nurse and we wear scrubs. One of the things I expect my students is for them to wear their scrubs with respect. When I say with respect, they need to stop doing any thing stupid, even outside work, when they are in scrubs. I hate it when I see people in scrubs and doing things that give nurses a bad image. But the sad part is, not only nurses wear scrubs. So it’s really hard to tell if they are nurses or not.
Hi Sarah,
You want to hang onto a few of the butterflies since they will help you to focus on what you are doing and help you to realize the responsibility you have as a professional. I think all of us instructors have some butterflies each time we start a new class. We wonder what the current group of students is like, how they will jell together, the challenges that will come up, etc. All of these issues make teaching both challenging and rewarding. I wish you the best in your teaching efforts.
Gary
Totally agreed but it still doesn't chase all the butterflies away :=)
