Class Expectations, Requirements, and Policies
No matter how detailed that I often make my syllabus or assignment, students often have questions. I understand some instructors require their students to sign them to make sure they read them. However, I have heard that students are offended by this. I am curious what you have done to make sure students are clear about your expectations, requirements, and policies?
Hi Deena,
This form of posting and their checking online about the information helps to train them to check for messages frequently. This way they will keep current on course announcements, deadlines, and up coming events.

I also find that the students tend to ask questions about how the material that is on the syllabus. I think that it is a great idea to have these reminders posted on their electronic mediums because many students do tend to check their online resources more than once a day.
Hi Maria,
The signing of a sheet as evidence of having read and reviewed the syllabus is often required by the college. If it isn't you can use you own judgment concerning whether you do this or not. The reviewing of the syllabus in class though is something will will want to do each time you start a new group of students.
I do go over the syllabus at the beginning of the class which included the expectations, requirements and policies. In addition I post these on our electronic medium that goes to students as reminders. I still have questions because students don't listen and wait until the last minute to do assignments. This is normal and just a part of doing business as an instructor.
