Leading by example

I always try to lead by example. Meaning, I am always professional, curtious hard working. This sets the tone for students to follow.

Hi Mark,
First, I have all of my information and equipment set up. Then, the lecture, talk about the project/subject for the day, demonstrate what is to be done, and I ask if they understand or if additional information is needed. And, lastly they do it with my assistance. At the end of the class we go back and discuss what went on during the course of the day.

As an Instructor I think it is very important to lead by example. The climate in the classroom flows much better when a good role model is the one who is teaching and demonstating excellence.

Hi Elizabeth,
This is a concept that every instructor has to understand. He or she is a model whether they are good or bad in portraying the model. They need to focus on making sure they are positive models because they are helping to create a future for their students and they, the students will model what they know.

Being a great example is so important. Students look at your example for guidance, and unfortunately, whether good or bad, they will imitate.

Indeed. by doing so we can emphasize the importance of certain key attributes of what we are teaching. I know some of the 'book' material might glaze over some very important details that we as teachers can pull out and explain or demonstrate in a real world scenario.
