Learning to be there for the student
I have found as I teach longer that the student comes with a set of areas that they are struggling with professionally. Being there to help them not only master course material, but be there for them as a life coach they receive maximum benefit for the course
VERY Good point. Sometimes its eaiser too because they know you have experience in the field and can give them a little extra info.
Hi Peter,
The role instructors play in the lives of their students is so important that it cannot be taken lightly. We need to make sure we see a very accurate picture each time we look into that mirror.
Gary
if we are not here for the student on a daily bases and a life time of committement, then we need to look into the mirror and ask our self why are we here?
Hi Caren,
You make a good point about the need to understand their world and what they are bringing to the class. With such an understanding comes increased ability to provide support and understanding when needed.
Gary
I find that teaching adults also brings with it accomidating their whole worlds at times. The more they understand that I am there to help them be successful, the more I find that I am also often aiding them in areas outside of the culinary realm.
