First Impression

This module is spot in regard to making a first impression with your class. An instructor has one time to do this properly. Being prepared and using a sense of humor can make the class relax and come together as a good team.

Being ready for a course indicates to the students that you are an expert in the field, and gives them a sense of ease, which would transfer to more questions being asked by the student concerning the material. I find more questions a student ask, means more the student is involve in the learning process.

Some students may be uncomfortable speaking in front of others but, its a great way to break the ice. The more they do it the less nervous they are.

Susan,

I agree in that when an instructor is prepared it can present a good impression to students. Also as you stated humor can help students to relax.

I also think that at the beginning of the first class allowing students to introduce themselves can also be a bit relaxing as they talk about a subject that is familiar to them (themselves.
