Hi Eric,
Good point. Consistency has to be a major working part of all instruction. Without it an instructor does start that slide toward loss of control of the class and the respect of students.

It is also important to continue to hold to those expectations. It can be very tempting to give in 'just this once' in what feels like a good samaritan attempt to help a student having trouble. However, this will weaken your expectations generally and starts everyone on a slippery downward slope to losing control of the course.
