Introductions

I love meeting a class for the first time! I love coming up with new activities to get to know everyone. One game that I like is having students come up with two questions and then having students draw them and answer them.

I like the first meeting because of introductions and getting to know new students as well have giving students the opportunity to meet other students in their field of interest.
I like to make sure that students are comfortable in the classroom as well as with their classmates. This will make group work a lot easier and make sharing and participation in class a lot easier on the student.

Introductions on the first day helps on many levels. It helps me plan on how I am going to relate to the different students which is essential in the learning enviroment. It also shows respect for all that are in the class by setting the tone of first we are all human beings and usually there are students that have something in common with each other that they might have never known.

I agree, I love meeting my class for the first time also. it gives me the first insight to what lives I will be able to have an influence on, even if it is for just a few weeks of their lives. I like to break the class into partners (I choose the partners) and have them interview each other. Then they have to give a brief introduction of the one that they interviewed. It seems to make for a good ice breaker and students get to know someone that they might not have known prior to class beginning.

That sounds like a great idea. I think I am going to try this, next semester.
Thank you for a wonderful idea.
I always love the first night of class.

I always enjoy learning who's in the class and why .... giving myself the challenge to include their background or interest at least once during the course.

Hi Alicia,
Sounds like a great way to start a new class. The students get to have some fun with the writing the questions and then answering them. This helps with student interaction as well challenges them in their knowledge of the course.
