First Impressions

The impression you leave with your students after the first day is going to carry over for the rest of the term. Self-confidence, knowledge of the subject, and making the students comfortable in their environment as a way of showing that you care about their well-being will go a long way on bringing down barriers between the instructor and student as the class continues.

Tana,

I like that, I hear some very funny stories about myself but the students know I am very compassionate about my job. I love what I do.

Hi Kathy,
Well said. It is so much easier to work from a good first impression because you are making forward progress rather than trying to correct a problem.

I believe first impressions are the foundations of great success for both students and instructors. The images will show the desired outcomes that will reflect the work on both sides.

I have tried something a little different with my "first day" introductions. I ask the question, "What have your classmates told you about me/ or this course already?" The responses have been very enlightening. This type of question opens the door for further discussions and allows me to clear up any misconceptions when they arise.

First impressions are also important, because it lets the students know if you mean business or if you are a push over. Some students try to get over where ever they can, but if they know you mean business the will stay focused.

Hi Donald,
I wish you much success as an educator. Teaching is such a rewarding career due to the opportunities you have to influence lives and help create futures.
Gary

At this time I have no experience in this except what I have learned in this program. I will be starting my first class soon and hopefully what I have gain from this class will show in my classroom as I start my first class.
